Includes signed letters from James G. Blaine, Woodrow Wilson, both thanking him for his support, T. Roosevelt referring to his son Archie having been wounded, J.G. Cannon and Ruth Hanna McCormick both re: a photo of Cannon. Majority is correspondence from Leonard Andrus III, F.E. Wirt of the J.I. Case Co. and H.F. Linde of the John Deere Co. and refers to biographical data on Andrus, Andrus' part in the making of the plow, the wording on the marker and the Grand Detour celebration. Copy of Stevens' speech. Typed copy of contract between Andrus and Deere.

John Deere was born February 7, 1804 in Rutland, Vermont. He apprenticed as a blacksmith. After a move to Grand Detour, Illinois, Deere developed and manufactured the first commercially successful cast-steel plow. By 1855, Deere's factory sold more than 10,000 such plows. It became known as "The Plow that Broke the Plains" and is commemorated as such in a historic place marker in Vermont. He died May 17, 1886 in Moline, Illinois. ...
